Looking Beyond Ourselves

Por los Demás is a youth leadership and community engagement initiative that brings young people together to learn, grow, serve, and build lasting friendships.

​

Through clubs, volunteer opportunities, mentorship, community projects, and shared experiences, members have the opportunity to discover new interests, develop practical skills, strengthen their communities, and become part of a network of young people who want to make a positive difference.

​

Whether your interests include photography, chess, music, art, technology, public speaking, sports, or simply meeting new people, Por los Demás is a place to learn alongside others while contributing to something bigger than yourself.

We believe that every young person has unique strengths to offer, and we hope to create opportunities for those strengths to grow.​​

 

Explore Interests

One of the goals of Por los Demás is to expose young people to new experiences, help them discover their interests, and encourage them to continue learning throughout their lives.

As the initiative grows, members may have opportunities to participate in:

• Photography and storytelling

• Chess and strategy games

• Art and creative projects

• Music and performance

• Technology and digital skills

• Leadership development

• Public speaking

• Reading and discussion groups

• Workshops with local professionals

• Educational visits

• Mentoring and peer learning

Serving Our Community

We believe that one of the best ways to grow is by serving others.

​

Throughout the year, members will have opportunities to participate in volunteer projects, environmental initiatives, tutoring, neighborhood improvement efforts, community events, and partnerships with local organizations.

​

These activities are not simply about completing volunteer hours or adding experiences to a résumé. They are opportunities to work together, solve problems, build friendships, and make meaningful contributions to the communities we share.

By serving others, we often discover strengths in ourselves that we never knew we had.

 

Why We Started

Por los Demás was created because of something we observed over time.

​

Students would quietly stop attending school. Some families began facing challenges that few people knew about. Sometimes months passed before anyone realized that a young person had dropped out, started working, or entered a dangerous situation.

​

Those experiences led us to ask an important question. What if young people looked out for one another a little more? What if it became normal to check on a classmate who had been absent? To encourage a friend who seemed discouraged? To let a trusted adult know when someone might need help?

​

We know young people cannot solve every challenge facing a community, nor should they carry responsibilities that belong to adults but we believe they can help create communities where people notice one another sooner, support one another more often, and where fewer young people face difficult moments alone.
