Our Goal

Our goal is not to create something better than what already exists or to exceed what people might expect. Our goal is to determine what would serve children, families, and the broader community best, using the strongest information, research, tools, and partnerships available to us.

Before deciding what Magis Academy should become, we are learning from children, families, educators, and community organizations. We are also forming partnerships with universities, educational institutions, researchers, assessment providers, and organizations developing tools that can help us better understand how children learn and grow.

We expect this process to take several years.

• Evaluating academic, developmental, and strengths-based assessment tools

• Developing a long-term assessment and learning framework

• Studying child development, education, family systems, and local economic realities

• Exploring educational technologies that may help us understand and support individual growth

• Learning from organizations already serving children and families well

• Asking whether a school is even the right answer

We are not searching for a model that is simply better than what people have experienced before. We are trying to understand what combination of education, family support, assessment, mentorship, technology, and community partnership could produce the strongest and most lasting outcomes.

Our goal is to use everything available to us to understand what children actually need before deciding what to create.

Our Non-Negotiables

Some things about Magis may evolve as we learn. These will not:

Academically Rigorous
We believe every student deserves to be challenged. Magis will set high academic expectations and provide students with the support they need to meet them.

100% Free
A family's ability to pay will never determine a child's ability to attend. Tuition, books, uniforms, transportation, meals, and required school materials will be provided at no cost to students or their families.

High Expectations. High Support.
We will not lower expectations because a student comes from a difficult background. Instead, we will provide the structure, resources, mentoring, and support necessary to help every student succeed.

Formation Beyond the Classroom
Education is about more than academic achievement. Magis will develop character, responsibility, curiosity, leadership, service, and the habits students need to become capable young men who contribute to their families and communities.

Service Is Part of the Education
Our students will not simply be recipients of opportunity. They will learn to use their talents and education in service to others.

Evidence-Based
We will measure what matters. Student progress will be assessed over time, outcomes will be studied, and our approach will change when the evidence tells us there is a better way.

Built Deliberately
We are not interested in growing simply for the sake of getting bigger. Magis will grow carefully, learning from each cohort and protecting the quality of the education and formation we provide.
